X-Ray Protective Eyewear

Aura Lens Products, Inc. is first and foremost a manufacturer of eye protection products. We are the only supplier of X-ray shielding glass lenses that meets the ANSI Z80-1979 standards.

Our lenses meet or exceed the standards for optical clarity, visible light transmission, and power and prism correction. Our lenses have been hardened to meet the 5/8" drop ball test. We are able to fabricate the leaded glass in plano power (non-prescription), as well as single vision and multifocal prescriptions.

Leaded glass has long been used as an effective shield against radiation of many types. Our lenses are Schott SF-6 leaded glass, the industry standard radiation shielding glass.

Notes on X-ray Protective Lenses:

Due to the high index of refraction of this glass (1.806), this material is subject to chromatic aberration that some wearers cannot tolerate. This material is very dense due to the amount of lead oxide (70%) that the glass contains.

Even though the lenses have been hardened, they will still scratch easily. Treat your X-ray protective eyewear as you would treat your personal glasses. To clean, use a clean, soft cloth or tissue and mild detergent. Do not use an acid-based or vinegar-based detergent. Acid-based cleaners will cause a chemical breakdown of the polished surface resulting in what appears to be a colored stain on the polished surfaces, essentially ruining the surface.

When you purchase any of our X-ray protective glasses, we provide you with a case and retention cord with a locking adjuster, except the 9702 Goggle.

Only the X-ray Protective Eyewear from Aura Lens Products carries a lifetime guarantee: If the frame breaks, we will replace it Free of Charge. Note: The lens material for all the X-ray protection listed below is Schott SF-6. See Schott X-ray Information for details on the test procedures and comprehensive results from the comparison to regular crown and flint glass types to leaded glass.

Frames noted with "Limited Bifocal**" have a prescription range limit of +4.00 diopters to -2.00 diopters because of the high 8 base curvature of the frame. These frames are not available with Trifocal or Progressive power lenses!
